Trap is the game for Japanese hip-hop producer Jinmenusagi, from hyperactive bounce to the drawl of “Vans Ninja”, the queasy heave of “Guchiguchi”, or in tandem with HyperJuice on the brain-rattling “G.I.R.L.”. But there’s little use for labels when it comes to an artist who so deftly slips between modes—spitting on a Wu-Tang trip with “Supa Dupa Mutha Fucka”; collaborating with Sweet William for smooth but self-aware Rap & B on “So Goo” and a nostalgic vibe on “Cheat”; and on his eponymous track, just a drum machine and his flow, stalking over the stark 808 beats.
