Rene Hell is not only noise artist Jeff Witscher's best-known alter ego, it's also his most stylistically diverse. He combines analog synths with purely digital processes to create music that has steadily progressed away from a more conventional, song-like feel. However, Hell never exhibits the coldness of overly academic experimentation. Each successive album feels de novo, as if he had no particular expectation or destination in mind when he set out to compose it. Hell's music embodies a pure strain of invention.
