Despite their different backgrounds, Dan + Shay are proof that two heads are better than one. Dan Smyers was originally on a Christian-rock label, while Shay Mooney was a solo artist on T-Pain's Nappy Boy, but the country-pop singer/songwriters came together and took over Nashville in 2014 with their album, Where It All Began. It's easy to see why: The bigger-than-life pop of "Show You Off" has an earworm whistling hook, coupled with exultant "ay-oh" chorus chants. And they continue to pull heartstrings with ballads like "From the Ground Up," with its seamless vocal harmonies, romantic visions, and elegant melodic architecture.
