Montreal troupe Bleu Jeans Bleu began in 2012 as a cheeky send-up of country-music tropes—complete with Canadian-tuxedo uniforms and stage names inspired by denim brands. They’ve since expanded their interests, both musically and sartorially, with jangly New Wave ditties about the preferred offstage attire of male strippers (“Pantalon de yoga”) and old-school rap-inspired celebrations of the hoodie (“Coton ouaté”). However, Bleu Jeans Bleu avoid the trappings of novelty songs by grounding their humour in relatable everyday experiences: The jaunty acoustic sing-along “Cashmere” is both a hilarious and harrowing account of being stuck in a bathroom with no toilet paper.
