Never Surrender
Album - Rock, Music, Hard Rock, Prog-Rock/Art Rock, Arena Rock, Metal
With high-octane anthems like “Too Much Thinking,” “All the Way,” and “Writing on the Wall,” 1983’s Never Surrender proved to be the most energetic album of Triumph’s career. The band benefitted from richer, more layered production, which made the resolute rhythms of “Battle Cry” and “Never Surrender” more impactful than songs from the band’s younger years, which seemed rather plain in retrospect. “Never Surrender” became the album’s breakout hit, and with good reason—the song has all the gut-punching conviction that fans had come to love about Triumph, but with a dash more pop appeal and sonic zest than their prior hits. Even though it was a written about a doomed romance, “A World of Fantasy” could just as easily serve as an encapsulation of Triumph’s musical ethos. The band’s music was always intended to draw listeners into a rock 'n' roll movie in which the songs were the setting and the fan was the hero.
