Album - Alternative, Music, Rock, Pop, Electronic, Pop/Rock
On their sophomore album, Music Go Music achieve a brilliant fusion of Giorgio Morodor–style disco and ABBA-like Europop. Impressions is much more than a reconfiguration of ‘70s sonic gestures, however. Going beyond homage or parody, the trio infuse the album’s songs with a mystical sort of eroticism that suggests Boogie Nights as scripted by St. Teresa of Avila. Much credit goes to Gala Bell’s dreamy yet compelling vocals, as well as the group’s collective flair for melody and dynamics. The throb and tingle of tracks like “Love Is All I Can Hear,” “Inferno,” and “Never Get Over You” are spurred on by ferocious guitar heroics. “Tell Me How It Feels” and “Part of Me” ride galloping Teutonic beats, while the funky “People All Over the World” and the sleek “Night After Night” glide and simmer with cool sensuality. By the time Bell makes love to God Himself in the closing tune “Shine Down Forever,” Impressions has taken listeners on a wild ride through a fever-drenched disco wonderland too fantastic to believe but too intoxicating to resist.
