About Bonnie Baxter
Künstler-Biographie
Brooklyn-based artist Bonnie Baxter performs a cathartic yet playful form of experimental electronic music, filled with jittery, abstract rhythms informed by juke and gabber, as well as her manic, scattered vocals. Initially making more restrained, ethereal music as Shadowbox during the early 2010s, Baxter made waves as a member of the noise-rock trio Kill Alters, and started releasing material under her own name in 2018, beginning with the frenetic Ask Me How Satan Started.
Baxter first began releasing music as Shadowbox in 2010. Her ambient synths, delicate vocals, and intricate beats attracted some attention from the post-dubstep scene, and following the release of 2012's Haunted by Colors EP, she graduated from the 2013 Red Bull Music Academy and was featured on releases by Djrum, Lapalux, and Illum Sphere. Additionally, she formed Kill Alters with Hisham Bharoocha (Soft Circle, ex-Black Dice, ex-Lightning Bolt) and Nicos Kennedy in 2013. A far cry from Baxter's calmer work as Shadowbox, the group mixed harsh, crushing rhythmic noise and vocal contortions with whimsical, sometimes disturbing recordings of Baxter as a child and her mother. Kill Alters' self-titled debut was released by Godmode in 2015, followed by No Self Helps, issued by Hausu Mountain in 2017. Baxter appeared on Machine Girl's ...Because I'm Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For, released the same year. Her solo debut, the punishing Ask Me How Satan Started, appeared in 2018, again on Hausu Mountain. A digital album titled Cobweb Sensations and another Hausu Mountain release, Axis, both came out in 2019. ~ Paul Simpson
