Finnish-Canadian indie rocker Afie Jurvanen said he selected Bahamas as the name for his solo project because “It sounded like a place I’d rather be.”
∙ Before releasing his 2009 debut album, Pink Strat, he played guitar in the live bands of fellow Canadians Feist, Jason Collett, and Howie Beck.
∙ His 2014 single “All the Time” became a breakout hit after it was used in a national ad campaign starring James Franco.
∙ Bahamas Is Afie, his third LP, made Q’s list of the Top 20 albums of 2014.
∙ He’s won four Juno Awards, including Adult Alternative Album honors for Bahamas is Afie and 2018’s Earthtones.
∙ Earthtones features the contributions of legendary drummer James Gadson (Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra) and bassist Pino Palladino (The Who, Nine Inch Nails, D’Angelo).
