Über Tina Arena
Tina Arena catapulted to global fame with the R&B-pop-inspired 1994 power ballad “Chains,” which spoke to the complications (and contradictions) of romantic love. However, the Melbourne, Australia, native had been in the spotlight since she was a pre-teen. Born in 1967, Arena joined the TV variety show Young Talent Time as a child and spent her adolescence in the public eye, singing popular cover songs of the day. After leaving the show, Arena launched a solo career. Her 1990 debut, Strong As Steel, contained her first big hit, the dance-pop anthem “I Need Your Body.” The subsequent success of “Chains” helped her 1994 album Don’t Ask reach No. 1 in Australia, a feat she’d repeat in 1997 with In Deep. Across the decades, Arena kept expanding her pop empire, releasing French-language albums in the mid-2000s prior to her 2015 induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame and her well-regarded portrayal of Eva Perón in a 2018 Australian revival of Evita.
