One of the most genuinely progressive contemporary bluesmen, Colorado-born Corey Harris is nonetheless heavily influenced by the acoustic, country blues sounds of traditional performers like Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb, etc. What makes his work truly exceptional is the way he incorporates funk, rock, and New Orleans R&B without ever sacrificing the integrity of his musical vision. A degree in anthropology also led Harris to travel to Cameroon and explore the African roots of blues. This made him a natural for inclusion in the Martin Scorsese-produced 2003 documentary THE BLUES, which helped to considerably raise Harris's profile.
