The unpredictable, madcap drummer of the Who, Keith Moon cultivated a reputation as one of rock’s greatest characters. Used to spectacular effect on Who classics such as “I Can See For Miles” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” Moon applied a devil-may-care propulsiveness to a drumming technique that already eschewed conventional rhythm and technique. He contributed the occasional quirky composition to the Who's catalog, and as a life-long fan of surf music, Moon inspired the Beach Boys/Jan and Dean selections on the 1966 EP READY STEADY WHO. On his lone solo album, TWO SIDES OF THE MOON (1975), he covered Brian Wilson’s “Don’t Worry Baby.” Increasingly debilitated by drugs and alcohol, Moon died in September 1978 from an overdose of prescription drugs.
