One of reggae's true pioneers, Jamaican producer Lee "Scratch" Perry helped develop the radical sound of dub in the late '60s and early '70s. Using his uncanny skills with studio techniques like echo and reverb, he transformed reggae hits into spacey instrumental grooves, and his solo dub cuts with his band The Upsetters are even more outlandish, layering psychedelic effects over booming rhythms.
