Butch Vig spent much of the ‘80s recording noise rock and hardcore. Tapped by Nirvana to produce Nevermind in 1991, Vig took his hard-edged approach to his biggest audience yet. Later in his career, he lent his brand of polish and rawness to alt rock heroes like Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, and Green Day, and also made music with his own band, Garbage.
