Formed by five Parisians in the early noughties, Frustration breathe new life into the darker sounds of ‘70s and ‘80s French music. The band borrows heavily from post-punk, mixing deep, baritone vocals à la Joy Division with temperamental guitars and gloomy basslines. Singing in both English and French, they take cues from synthwave and electro to serve up intoxicatingly danceable rhythms on stellar releases like 2008's Relax. Their songs pulsate with erratic alt-rock tempos, barbaric vocal bursts, and lyrics that detail a perverse social realist realm.
