Tijuana’s Fntxy is creating a new sound in trap-corrido, an evocative blend of ethereal beats fused with traditional folk ballads. Elihú Gándara Heredia has been dropping hazy cuts since the release of “Diferente” in 2014. Two years later, he joined Mexico City’s Homegrown Mafia collective and hopped on lavish party bangers with Yoga Fire and Alemán. But it’s the La Plebada project with fellow Sinaloan rapper Cozy Cuz which showcases Fntxy’s talent for transcending trap conventions to make his own lane.
