The Cologne Concert
Album - Folk, Music, Singer/Songwriter
It’s fitting that one of the last folk singers to emerge from the Greenwich Village scene of the '60s would be among the ones still going strong in 2011. Many of Eric Andersen’s early albums were slightly at odds with his natural style, especially as the psychedelic era took over. But by the early '70s, Andersen was right on time for the singer/songwriter era; his Blue River album remains among his best and most-loved. The horror of his record label misplacing the master tapes to the follow-up (eventually released as the excellent Stages—The Lost Album) severely curtailed his momentum—but by the late '80s, with the stirring Ghosts Upon the Road, Andersen showed the maturity and resilience that’s been his strength all along. And audiences who loved that work will surely respond to this seven-song live album, where Andersen is accompanied by Michele Gazich on violin and his wife, Inge Andersen, on backing vocals. The timeless beauty of “Time Run Like a Freight Train” and “Woman She Was Gentle” simply can’t be overstated.
