Apple Music Home Session: Finn Askew
Άλμπουμ · Hip-Hop/Rap · 2021
Finn Askew is used to working from home—debut single “Roses” was written with little more than GarageBand and a £20 microphone—so asking the Somerset singer-songwriter to record this Apple Music Home Session hardly threw him out of his comfort zone. But, in putting down his own version of The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather,” he still found there were lessons to absorb. “I learned that, instrumentally, ‘Sweater Weather’ is so simple,” he tells Apple Music. “It just showed how simple songs really can be the best. ‘Sweater Weather’ was my go-to tune when I used to go busking in town. It was the start of lockdown when I started releasing, so this whole period has been my first experience in the industry, and as an artist I’ve learned so many things. I feel wiser now.” He also treats us to a special version of his single “Cherry Bomb,” giving the sunny alt-soul track new sit-with-me-at-the-piano intimacy. “‘Cherry Bomb’ is special to me because it’s so unique,” he says. “It’s not really a sound that I’ve tried before. I feel like I’ve always been open to exploring sounds. I’ve never felt like I belonged in one genre.”
