Bernie Taupin is recalled principally as the lyric writer for Elton John, their prolific partnership taking flight when John added a poignant melody to Taupin’s reflective lyrics on the memorable "Your Song." After a lucrative run of albums, Taupin split from John in 1976, after which he collaborated briefly with Alice Cooper and released a low-key solo effort. In 1983, Taupin was re-established as John’s principal lyricist, and later co-founded the roots rock side project Farm Dogs.
