In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
Growing up in a remote log cabin under Mount Rainier, music was my only escape from the isolation. Today, knowing my time is ending, there is no escape. Every note I create is my dying story left behind so my daughter Aranza will know who her dad was
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Billy Idol, Rebel Yell
Dominik Hauser, "Dune" - Main Theme from the Motion Picture (Toto) - Single
Journey, Escape (2022 Remaster)
Dune by Toto captures the dark isolation of my youth. Escape by Journey mirrors the redemption found with my wife Andreina. Rebel Yell by Billy Idol holds the visceral weight I channel to create this final legacy for my family.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“She Needs to be the Dad”
She needs to be the dad is my conversation with God about telling my wife she must be both mother and father to Aranza. I am not afraid to die, but my final days are crushed by the guilt of the pain and struggle I will leave them. Please forgive me.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
The most memorable moment was hearing my first song, Stone Masons Hands, in Spanish with Aranza. Her excitement turned to understanding. She put her little hand on mine, held back tears, and said sorry. I knew my story was clearly written.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
My only remaining goal is to finish this cinematic record before my time runs out. I want to leave behind enough truth, grit, and love in these tracks so that as Aranza grows up, she will always know exactly who her father was.
