Guitar and bass duo Endless Field make atmospheric jazz and folk instrumental music, marked by their ambient harmonics and textured improvisation. They debuted with 2017's Endless Field. Formed around 2016 in New York City, Endless Field features guitarist Jesse Lewis and bassist Ike Sturm. Born in Boston, Lewis grew up listening to a mix of rock and jazz musicians, and initially honed his guitar skills at the University of New Orleans under Steve Mazakowski. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, he has played with a bevy of performers, including Chris Potter, Ellis Marsalis, Anat Cohen, Dave Douglas, and others. Similarly, Wisconsin native Sturm earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Eastman School of Music, and studied with acclaimed bassist Dave Holland. He has worked with such forward-thinking artists as Kenny Wheeler, Maria Schneider, Bobby McFerrin, and more. Longtime associates, the pair worked together for over a decade in various projects prior to forming their duo. In 2017, they released the eponymous Endless Field, which featured guest appearances by Donny McCaslin, Ingrid Jensen, Fabian Almazan, and others. They returned in 2020 with the live field album Alive in the Wilderness, which they recorded in various outdoor locations around Southern Utah. ~ Matt Collar
