The Force M.D.'s are a vocal group recognized for melding doo wop and hip-hop and prefiguring the new jack swing movement, though they specialize in old-school R&B balladry that spotlights their impeccable harmonies. They broke out of Staten Island in 1984 with "Tears," a pristine throwback to the likes of the Manhattans and the Stylistics, and the next year delivered their signature song, "Tender Love," a Top Ten pop hit written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. After they crowned the R&B chart in 1987 with "Love Is a House," the M.D.'s scored seven more charting singles through 1992. They've continued to perform and record with varying lineups, releasing the 2017 covers album Our Favorite Joints and 2020s singles that have seen them slide into a Southern soul-blues mode.
