A popular vocalist in the '40s and '50s, who recorded many hits for Capitol Records, Margaret Whiting was the daughter of songwriter Richard Whiting, author of "On The Good Ship Lollipop." She began recording for Capitol in 1942, her first major hit being the Johnny Mercer-Harold Arlen song "That Old Black Magic." It was followed by a string of hits including "Moonlight In Vermont," "It Might As Well Be Spring," and the chart-toppers "A Tree In The Meadow" and "Slipping Around." She continued recording for Capitol into the mid-50s, subsequently recorded for Dot, Verve, and London. Whiting was still recording and performing into the early-'90s.
