Although he came up through the world of Canadian indie rock, Spencer Burton has built his solo career as a troubadour rooted in a blend of earthy country and folk music. In the mid-2000s he played guitar for rangy Ontario combo Attack in Black before striking out on his own in 2010. After a pair of moody singer/songwriter albums under the name Grey Kingdom, Burton forged a more rustic, big-hearted sound on 2014's Don't Let the World See Your Love. It was his first release using his own name and marked a turning point toward the country-driven style of subsequent albums like The Mountain Man (2019) and Coyote (2021). Recorded in Nashville, Burton's fifth LP, North Wind, was released at the beginning of 2024.
