After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1967, guitarist John Abercrombie quickly charted a course into the burgeoning fusion movement. He played with the group Dreams, then went on to work with that band's drummer, Billy Cobham. Beginning his solo career on ECM Records in 1975, Abercrombie recorded in a wide variety of settings for that label and others, developing an atmospheric, almost liquid tone on his instrument that would influence legions of younger players. Abercrombie continues to be in demand as a sideman today.
