Mika Vainio started his career in the ‘90s playing drums and electronics in various noise and industrial groups in his native Finland. He broke into the international scene as a member of Pan Sonic, the duo that helped bring minimalist techno to Europe's dance clubs. On his own, Vainio has wandered in a number of different directions. Albums recorded under his name have a seamy, dark quality that hews closer to early industrial, while his works as Ø are techno tracks built even more sparsely than his Pan Sonic efforts.
