From the ashes of punk band Carving was born a similarly unruly, but musically diffuse, new outfit. Lille rock innovators Skip the Use may have switched up their sound, putting the groove first, but they retained a steadfast refusal to adhere to trends. Instead, they’ve been thrillingly blending funk rock with pop, ska, electro and more since 2008, eventually breaking through in France with their third album, Little Armageddon, in 2014. It features their fizzing calling card, “Nameless World”—an anthemic blast from the heart that echoes the thrill of their incendiary live shows.
