Formed in 1970, New York's Suicide was part of the mid/late-‘70s CBGB punk scene, but they actually predated it by several years. Alan Vega and Martin Rev developed an approach more radical than punk, forsaking guitars and live drums for synthesizers and primitive drum machines. Inspired by Iggy Pop, Vega took a confrontational approach to live performance that literally brought danger to the stage. Though not as commercially successful as their peers, Suicide influenced all manner of electronic music for years to come, from industrial to synth pop, techno, and more.
