Americana outfit Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit—featuring musicians from the legendary Muscle Shoals region—was assembled by Isbell after he left Drive-By Truckers.
∙ The band takes its name from the 400 Unit, which is what locals once called the psychiatric ward of Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama.
∙ The 400 Unit includes fiddle player Amanda Shires, who founded country supergroup The Highwomen in 2019 and is Isbell’s wife.
∙ “Alabama Pines,” the homesick lead track from their album Here We Rest, won Song of the Year honors at the 2012 Americana Music Awards.
∙ After hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Indie, Rock, Country, and Folk charts, The Nashville Sound won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Americana Album.
∙ Their 2020 LP Reunions—which has a guest appearance from legendary singer-songwriter David Crosby—topped the Billboard Country, Rock, and Folk charts.
