Singer CARYS, the stage name of Canadian actor Avila Mongillo, found new success when her song “Princesses Don’t Cry” went viral on TikTok. • Mongillo launched her music career (under her real name) in 2016 with the atmospheric single “Hype,” released while she was also starring in the Canadian drama series Backstage. • Her 2017 debut EP, Songs About Boys, features the song “Princesses Don’t Cry,” which blew up on TikTok in 2019. The surge in popularity spurred her to rerelease the song as a single under her new stage name, CARYS. • In October 2020, CARYS released the EP To Anyone Like Me, featuring “Princesses Don’t Cry” and five other songs.
