In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. The Beatles film, "Hard Days Night", was like an annual holiday special in my home growing up. I loved watching it whenever it showed up on TV in the pre-streaming, broadcast television days. My sense of the joy of being in a band came from that.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Brandi Carlile, The Story Sam Cooke, Night Beat The Beatles, Abbey Road (2019 Mix) Abby Road showed me the potential of music to tell stories like cinema. Sam Cooke is unmatched in interpreting song and Night Beat is a master class. Carlile, the Hanseroths and the Story album lit the fire in me to pick up recording music again.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Just Like You” "Just Like You" is a personal song that deals with the struggle to overcome the trauma that shapes our identities. Musically, the song looks to Roy Orbison as inspiration for its dark, complicated themes and its sweeping, cinematic arrangement.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Recording music over the last three years with my good friend Max Butler and an amazing group of players has been pure joy. The cherry on top has been working with my sons, Christian and Josh and Max's son, Nat, on the latest record in particular.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I mean, if I'm swinging for the fences, a Grammy would be super, writing for some awesome movies or tv shows or playing some big, sold out home town shows would be bucket-listable aims. But, if I can making music for several more years, I'll take it.
