The husband of the Duchess of Nemours was useful in the development of the "ballet de cour". Accordingly Jean Boyer dedicated a number of his musical pieces -- primarily ballets -- to the Duchess. It is probable that another Jean Boyer directed music at the College of Agricola in Avignon and composed motets including "Ecce Homo" (Behold man) and "Crux fidelis". Unfortunately there were seemingly two Jean Boyers, one Protestant and the other Catholic. The latter mentioned composed stimulating airs while the former mentioned seems to have composed drinking songs in addition to his ballets. ~ Keith Johnson
