Employing an eclectic blend of noodly, experimental psych-pop, cosmic space rock, and muscular alternative rock, Germany's Jelly Planet were founded in 1997 around the talents of Stephan Hendricks (vocals, keyboard), Alexander Schönert (guitar), Felix Gutierrez (bass), and Jens Küchenthal (drums). Based out of Dortmund, the group issued its debut LP, Food, in 2003 via Pirate Records. A sophomore effort, Yellow Sunshine Explosion, followed in 2005, and in 2018 they teamed up with Krautrock legend Damo Suzuki of Can for an LP (Damo Suzuki & Jelly Planet) that was released by psych-minded Cleopatra subsidiary Purple Pyramid. ~ James Christopher Monger
