Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Listening to the Paul McCartney song, performed by Badfinger 'Come and Get It' on the radio before I was old enough to go to school. The melody was lodged in my memory. My first gig - The Specials at City Hall Carlisle which was well...very special!
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bob Dylan, Blood On the Tracks Nick Drake, Pink Moon The Beatles, The Beatles (The White Album) If you were pushed for your desert island disks, surely these would be amongst the finest examples of songwriting of all time.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “What have you done” Well I don't quite 'love' any of them, but when I'm forced to listen to this, I don't mind hearing it. The song that is. It taps into to something quite nostalgic and personal. I like the ambiguity.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I think you always remember your first 'big' gig. For me it was playing at a Les Inrockuptibles festival in Paris in the 1990s with Edwin Collins and Grant McLennan. Coming out on stage and hearing a such a warm reception was a great moment.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? To be able to be separated from the people who share my name on Apple music! To have a biography that is me and not a different John Cunningham!
