Discordant, elusive, and utterly hypnotic, Loop conjure a dark, trance-like sonic spell. Upon arrival, their sound contrasted sharply with the prevailing British pop music trends of the late '80s and early '90s, touching on influences from the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, and early Can to resurrect space rock for a new era. Similar to fellow travelers Spacemen 3, Loop made droning soundscapes of bleak beauty and harsh dissonance. The band originally lasted only a few years, but what they created in that brief window -- highlighted by Heaven's End (1987), Fade Out (1988), and A Gilded Eternity (1990), the latter two of which topped the U.K. indie chart -- drew fascination and excitement from listeners for years to come. A 2013 reunion and intermittent activity afterward culminated with Sonancy (2022), the first Loop album in 32 years.
