French cellist Marianne Dumas studied cello in Bordeaux and Lyon before relocating to the United States, where she attended Carnegie Mellon University and earned her Master's degree and performer's diploma. Her teachers included Roland Pidoux, Yvan Chiffoleau, David Premo, and Anne Williams. Dumas became interested in Baroque cello, and traveled to Berlin to research techniques, performance practices, and instruments of the period at the Berlin Philharmonie, particularly in connection with the six unaccompanied Cello Suites of Johann Sebastian Bach. Based on her discoveries, Dumas produced a new edition of the Cello Suites, and employing what she calls a "full Baroque set-up," she recorded them for Urania Records. She is a member of Duo Aparte with pianist Adrian Reigner, and she has performed in Berlin with pianists Olga Monakh and Nicolas Bringuier. She has appeared with orchestras in France and Spain, and performed in the continuo group of the Fundación Excelentia at the National Auditorium of Madrid. Dumas is also an educator, teaching in Berlin and giving tutorials online.
