Oakland band Naked Roommate make synth-driven, danceable punk that can be explosive and packed with high-energy sound or minimal and fractured. The group existed mostly as a conceptual side project for members of Oakland punk outfit the World, but came into full fruition when that band called it quits in January 2020. Naked Roommate wasted no time tapping into skeletal drum machine beats and shadowy no wave sounds on their debut full-length, Do the Duvet, which was released later that year, and followed it with the equally rambunctious Pass the Loofah four years later.
