A quartet of gospel-singing sisters Cherry, Lindy, Laury and Debby Boone (b. Deborah Anne Boone, 22 September 1956, Hackensack, New Jersey, USA), the Boones are the offspring of Shirley and Pat Boone (they are also the grand-daughters of legendary country singer Red Foley). While their father was touring Japan with the then little-known pop group the Osmonds in 1970, the sisters made their debut with an interpretation of ‘What The World Needs Now Is Love’. It brought them instant fame as well as encouraging write-ups in magazines such as Variety, who called their live act ‘one of the most-talked about shows of this or any other season’. Their debut album, The Boone Girls, and its follow-up, First Class, were both well received within the gospel community, but by now Debby Boone had become better known as a solo singer, hitting the top of the US charts for two months with ‘You Light Up My Life’.
