Singer/songwriter Tim Harrison was among the contemporary Canadian folk music scene's most notable proponents, a driving force not only as a performer but also as a festival organizer and director. He first earned attention in 1976 as the founder of the Owen Sound Summerfolk Festival, and later helped develop the Eaglewood Folk Festival; in 1979, he issued his debut LP Train Going East, which was engineered by Daniel Lanois. In the Barroom Light appeared in 1985; its follow-up, The Stars Above, was not issued until a decade later, but in the meantime Harrison remained active in the folk community, serving as artistic director of the All-Canadian Mariposa Festival as well as the urban folk festival Northwind. The recipient of the 1997 Porcupine Award for his continued support of Canadian folk music traditions, Harrison issued his fourth LP, Bridges, later that same year. ~ Jason Ankeny
