Troy Sneed's gospel is smooth, sweet, and ambitious. He hit his stride in the mid-'00s and continues to find new ways to blend the funky punch of urban contemporary with traditional call-and-response arrangements. “Lay It Down” floats above the clouds, with his feel-good ministering and tenor cry weaving through angelic choir singing, and the upbeat “You Are Awesome (Awesome God)” adds a dose of devotional oomph to his honeyed style. The collaborative singer doesn't take the lead a whole lot, but when he does—check out the soulfully cresting “I Give You Praise”—he lets loose the full might of his vocal skills.
