Lyrics
There’s nothing left in this old town
There’s been no work since the mill closed down
The shopfronts they’re all boarded up
I watched this town run out of luck
We ain’t got no time for the government
All we have is heaven sent
So I drink a beer just to forget
I can’t move on my ways are set
I remember when summers were hot
We’d hang around by the ice cream shop
Go swimming by the water tower
Make it home after the midnight hour
Mum was left to raise the kids
She tried her best she always did
She’d clothe us, put shoes on our feet
She’d skip a meal so we could eat
Now I sit here all alone
Waiting by the telephone
It’s disconnected it won’t ring
There’s a faded photo of the king
I’m drinking now to numb the pain
I know I’ll never feel again
Oxy pills and cigarettes
Soon time to leave but not just yet
I draw the curtains and dim the lights
The clock is ticking maybe tonight
To put myself to the test
You’ll find me somewhere in the west
I will never leave you
I’ll always be there
Never gonna leave this town
I ain’t going nowhere
