Why Not?

I can smell the coffee as I lie in bed,

Hoping it can clear, the fog from my head,

The bread in the toaster as I search for my face,

I’m going to milk this day for all its beauty and grace, why not?

Walking in the street, I smile at strangers,

Humming to myself, people wonder,

Why am I so chipper and why do I groove?

Why do I seem to dance whenever I move? Why not?

Sun always shines in my soul,

Footprints of moon in my heart,

But don’t ever think I’m a fool,

For daring to stick to my path,

Take my hand and follow me, why not ?

Happiness is a choice so I choose to groove,

Let go of the fear and the need to prove,

Anything to anyone at any point in time,

Living my life I’m loving to live it ain’t no crime!

Give me a keyboard and I’ll hug a tree,

Don’t need a wand for the magic to be,

I get high off basslines and sweet melodies,

To elevate my mood I just change key, why not ?

Pick up a drink and raise a toast

Tap your feet ‘till you can’t feel your toes ;

The moon ain’t got nowhere to go

Get up and move with the flow, why not ?
