Ghosts

It's 3am and

I can't fall asleep

These memories

Dance on the ceiling

I feel something rise

From a graveyard in my mind

I toss and turn

Put on all the lights

I'd rather stay up all night

Than have to face what's underneath there

I'm scared to wake the dead

So I'll let those lonely shadows rest

They don't belong here

I'll give them to the night

No these ghosts

Won't haunt me tonight

It's 4am and

My skin is shivering

I walk outside

To feel the starlight

Pale figures appear

At the edges of the trees

I stand my ground determined to fight

Suddenly I see

These ghosts are part of me

Wandering, yearning

It's time to wake the dead

Bring back those parts of me

I left, hungry and broken

Hiding from the light

Now I know love can bring them back to life
