Lyrics

Growin Up (ShoNuff)
Featuring: Jada Imani, Amen, Basi
Produced By Zoran Kollock
(Intro) - Ikera Davis
A real big part of our culture in our community is that we have each others backs and we look out for each other. We love each other near and far. Love each other off the basis of our blackness. I see another black person, I speak. I see another black person, I nod. It’s an acknowledgement of life, an acknowledgement of presence and an acknowledgement of love.
Chorus (Jada):
Jada Chorus
 It ain’t easy
not every day
They testing me
Test my faith and test my strength
I’m going up, going up
It’s just a part of growing up, growing up
Jada Verse
State of the world is so unreal
I’m pushing the weight off my
Pushing the weight off my shoulder
Sho’Nuff
Still gon’ count by blessings
Pushing the weight off my
Pushing the weight off my shoulder
Basi Verse:
Growth
Was the ones did the most
Through the highs and the lows
Having fun making toasts
Now we think it all through and we still do the most
But precision is the mission in the vision that I wrote
Just listen it’s a lesson in the words that I spoke
Wisdom is the weapon
Plant a seed it’s gone grow
Symbols of protection on my skin I can’t fold
Stuck in the same place say it ain’t so
Yo Back to my back
And my back to yo back
And my raps in yo ear
And my black and yo black
she said tell me what you need please Basi talk back
All facts no cap all caps
Not this all that
Ima bounce right back
We gone get straight to it
Where you been where you at
No time to react or relax we back
Yeah we started in the soil but we put it on
the map
That’s facts
Jada Chorus
 It ain’t easy
not every day
They testing me
Test my faith and test my strength
I’m going up, going up
It’s just a part of growing up, growing up
(Outro) - Ikera Davis
So for me and my personal journey of learning to love myself was for things that had nothing to do with my blackness. Learning to love who I am for real. Not who the world sees me as. But who I am and who I see myself as. learning to be okay with being misunderstood but not being okay with being unheard. As a plus-sized Black women, I’ve went through times and moments not being sure or present through my self love journey where other times I love myself today and everything’s okay. Other days you have to love yourself today because nobody else is. It’s up to you to feed yourself, nurture yourself and to not let other peoples opinions get in the way of your journey of self love.
