Lyrics
We can't be friends anymore,
Not like before, not like before.
You burned the bridge, you slammed the door,
We can't be friends anymore.
I remember crossing at the Oroville borderline,
Cherry Coke in my hand, sun in my eyes.
Seattle lights felt like a dream,
Saturday mornings on my TV screen.
Washington State signals shaped my youth,
Cartoons and movies told their truth.
We watched your stars, learned your ways,
But held on tight to ours each day.
Road tripping south down the scenic 101,
Salt in the air, chasing the sun.
Oregon's cliffs and California waves,
Dreaming big like the world was safe.
We felt your pull, we knew your songs,
But never thought we'd lose the bond.
Now the fires burn, the fault lines break,
And trust's a price too high to pay.
We can't be friends anymore,
Not like before, not like before.
You burned the bridge, you slammed the door,
We can't be friends anymore.
I walked your streets, your Vegas lights,
Stood in the shadow of Hollywood heights.
Drove through the deserts, the neon haze,
Grand Canyon nights and Lost Highway days.
From above the Strip to below the Bible Belt,
I saw the wealth, I felt the melt.
A nation divided, voices raised,
A dream in ruins, a love betrayed.
It wasn't just the wars you wage,
Or the walls you built, or the price you made.
It's the trust that's lost, the love that's gone,
The cold, hard truth we're standing on.
Your hand once reached, your doors once wide,
But now you turn, now you divide.
And as the echoes fade away,
I stand my ground, no more to say.
We can't be friends anymore,
Not like before, not like before.
You burned the bridge, you slammed the door,
We can't be friends anymore.
Now back at home, where mountains rise,
I watch the storm in southern skies.
Lines once blurred, now cut so clear,
A neighbor's face now laced with fear.
Your so-called leaders rant, your towers shake,
Your promises bend, your treaties break.
We stood by close, but now we see,
This is no longer the place it used to be.
Maybe one day, when the dust has cleared,
When the fear is gone, when the truth is near.
But today, my friend, like the years before,
We can't be friends
