On Secrets, Jessica Dobson wraps her moodily detached voice around gauzy, noir-smeared indie rock, resulting in an album that feels like a journey through the secluded interior of the singer/songwriter’s mind. On "Notice Me," her melancholy plea floats in a lonely sea of reverb and flickering post-punk guitars. “Always Waiting” finds the music reduced to just vocals and ambient textures, and it’s spellbinding. Even when she kicks up the tempo, as she does on the danceable “See These Eyes,” her hypnotic cadence still feels intensely reflective and isolated.
