Escucha Diamond Hoo Ha de Supergrass

Album - Rock, Music, Pop, Britpop, Adult Alternative
England’s Supergrass appeared on the rock horizon in 1994 as either the genre’s next superheroes, or perhaps simply that year’s one-hit wonders. Over the years, they’ve proven to be merely human and Diamond Hoo Ha continues in that tradition, offering stellar moments of sheer rock genius and other moments that feel a bit like dissipating steam. The jittery “The Return Of ...,” for instance, starts off with a Strokes-like energy but then shifts gears and never really regains momentum. There’s plenty of good news, however. The title track is one of those genius moments; it explodes into your earbuds, all sexy swagger and fuzzed out guitars, and a chorus consisting of  “Bite me!,” a near perfect piece of post-, post-punk alt-pop. A few tracks recall one of the godfathers of rock, Iggy Pop: “Bad Blood” has an early Stooges’ thump and snarl, and “Rebel in You” feels like ’90s-era Iggy, with roiling, urgent pianos and and a hooky melody. The roaring, prickly guitars of “Whiskey & Green Tea,” the funky synths on “Rough Knuckles” and the ‘70s styled excesses of “Outside” should keep you more than interested before you cue up the title track again.
