World On Fire (feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators)
Album - Hard Rock, Music, Rock
Though World on Fire is credited to Slash and then secondarily to featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, in reality vocalist Kennedy is the album’s main draw. Certainly, Slash delivers numerous trademark guitar solos from his Gibson Les Paul. “Battleground,” in particular, features one of the album’s most dramatic guitar solos. But Slash doesn’t make “guitar albums" in the sense of Joe Satriani or Yngwie Malmsteen; he passes much of the music’s identity off to singer Kennedy and onto the actual songs presented here. At 17 tracks, World on Fire is less an album than an outburst. Seventy-seven minutes is longer than many classic double albums, so it’s wisest to focus on this album in pieces; some of the best moments are surprisingly tucked in near the end. Openers such as the title track and “Shadow Life” start things promisingly, but songs like “Battleground,” “Dirty Girl,” “Avalon,” and “The Dissident” provide the most memorable moments. World on Fire runs at top speed and full-on aggression mode from beginning to end.
