Audiences first got to hear the Van Halen-meets-Iggy Pop sound of the Licks, and the songs Lewis had been writing with hit songwriter Linda Perry, at Johnny Depp's club, the Viper Room, in 2003. With her pastel-punk outfits and full-throated vocal abandon, she and her band became live legends beyond the novelty of her actress past. Multiple albums have confirmed the singer's seriousness to the musical cause.
