The Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra is considered one of Austria's finest orchestras, surpassed in reputation perhaps only by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra performs a variety of repertory, from Baroque to contemporary. While it tends to favor works by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, it has increasingly expanded its repertory, performing music by Stravinsky, Berio, and Georg Friedrich Haas. The Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra performs a regular schedule of concerts at the Salzburger Landestheater and other Austrian locations. It also regularly appears at the Salzburg Festival and Mozart Festival and often goes on tour across the globe. In 2017, Riccardo Minasi began his tenure as principal conductor, succeeding Ivor Bolton. Bolton led the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra in a recording of Haydn's Il Ritorno di Tobia that was issued in 2020 on Sony Classical.
Entre los miembros de Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg se encuentran, o se han encontrado, Matthias Bamert, Bernhard Krabatsch, Johannes Hinterholzer, Herbert Lindsberger, Erich Hehenberger, Wolfgang Spitzer, Brita Burgschwendtner, Marcus Pouget, Esther Gutiérrez Redondo, Markus Tomasi y Laila Storch.
