Lucio Gallo began his promising career as an operatic baritone in the mid-'90s. He studied at the Elio Battaglia School in Taranto and pursued vocal technique at the Pescaro Accademia Musicale and at the Hugo Wolf School in Acquasparta. Beginning in 1996, he has appeared in some of the leading opera houses in the world, including the Berlin Deutsche Oper, the Royal Opera in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
His roles include Leporello in Don Giovanni, both the Count and Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Ford in Falstaff, Scarpia in Tosca, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly, Marcello in La bohéme, and the title roles in Wozzeck, Yevgeny Onegin, and Il prigioniero (Dallapiccola), as well as other parts in works by Rossini, Verdi, Mozart, Bizet, Debussy, and Orff. He should not be confused with Luca Gallo, a bass baritone a few years younger who began his career in Italian houses in 1997.
